Here's why everyone should pay things forward.

When I was a senior in the Journalism/Advertising program at the University of Illinois, I wasn't looking for favors. I didn't have connections. On campus interviews were sparse due to ad agency mergers and an overall economic slow down.

A professor I didn't really know, Dr. Gordon White, called me to his office one day to tell me I needed to interview for a job in New York. He asked the company to make time for me a half hour before they were supposed to start interviews.

I got the job and it it started my career. I'll never forget his kindness and I hope people will also remember me as someone who has paid things forward. It's not when you ask for it; it's when you're seen.
