Engineering Manager – Agentic Orchestration
Location: Madrid, Community of Madrid, Spain
Department: Engineering
About Sinch & The Role
Sinch is a Customer Communication Cloud company, directly powering meaningful conversations at scale across messaging, voice, and email to help businesses deliver unified, personalized experiences that truly revolve around their customers. More than 150,000 businesses—including many of the world’s largest tech companies—rely on us for their customer communication needs.
The Role: We are at the bleeding edge of making everything conversational. As the Engineering Manager for our Agentic Orchestration space, you will lead 2 product engineering teams based in Spain. You will tackle one of our most critical and complex challenges: seamlessly blending work across our conversational solutions, communication channels, and advanced AI agents.
We operate on a true "build, ship, run" model. We are looking for an experienced, visionary engineering leader who thrives in a high-autonomy environment and knows how to foster a culture of end-to-end ownership.
What You'll Do (The 6 Dimensions of Your Success)
As an Engineering Manager on this team, your impact will be measured across six core dimensions:
• People Leadership Effectiveness: Build, energize, and retain two high-performing teams in Spain. You will conduct regular 1-on-1s, performance evaluations, and career growth discussions to ensure team members are motivated and aligned.
• Process Excellence and Systems Thinking: Create scalable ways of working and champion our "build, ship, run" culture. You will ensure the teams follow modern software engineering best practices, including trunk-based development, Infrastructure as Code (IaC), GitOps, and CI/CD.
• Technical Engagement and Judgment: Guide sound technical decisions for mission-critical workloads. You'll act as a strategic sounding board for your Tech Leads, overseeing the development and operation of high-performance, distributed, and fault-tolerant agentic orchestration systems.
• Clarity Creation and Communication: The AI and orchestration space is inherently complex. You will excel at making the complex understandable, translating highly technical concepts into clear strategies for your team and business stakeholders.
• Team Leadership Contribution: Operate actively as part of our leadership system. You will work closely with the Engineering Director and peer managers to balance priorities across different domains and contribute to domain-level strategic initiatives.
• Collaboration and Cross-Team Influence: Drive the implementation of the Conversational AI Strategy. You will build strong bridges with Product Management, Conversational Solutions, and Channels teams to ensure our orchestration layer seamlessly integrates across the entire Sinch ecosystem.
What We're Looking For
• Proven Leadership: Proven experience leading multiple teams as a manager. Crucial: You must have at least 2 years of prior experience in a Tech Lead or Senior Engineering role before moving into management and 4 years of engineering management.
• Product & Customer Mindset: Deep familiarity with leading empowered product engineering teams and working in a customer-centric environment (ideally within a SaaS business).
• Technical Foundation & System Design: Strong background in building services/tooling for other developers. You have deep system design skills to architect distributed systems and knowledge in high-level languages like Java or TypeScript.
• Cloud & Modern Ops: Solid experience building and operating within the AWS ecosystem, alongside strong familiarity with trunk-based development, IaC, GitOps, and CI/CD toolsets. Temporal experience is a strong nice-to-have.
• AI Fluency & Advocacy: Strong proficiency in leveraging AI tools to boost developer productivity. You know how to guide your teams in using AI, advocate for its adoption in daily workflows, and build internal AI solutions that elevate the overall team's efficiency and capabilities.
• Language & Communication: Exceptional communication skills to influence technical and business stakeholders. Fluency in English is required. (Please submit your resume in English!)
