Position Summary

The Project Safety Coordinator is responsible for supporting and enforcing safety compliance across active construction projects. This individual will oversee site-specific safety initiatives, conduct inspections and audits, facilitate training programs, investigate incidents, maintain regulatory documentation, and promote a proactive safety culture among all project personnel.

This role requires a visible field presence and regular interaction with project teams, subcontractors, clients, and trade partners throughout all phases of construction.

Key Responsibilities

• Implement and manage project-specific safety programs in accordance with company, client, and regulatory requirements.

• Conduct routine site inspections to identify potential hazards, unsafe behaviors, and non-compliant conditions.

• Recommend and monitor corrective actions to ensure compliance with OSHA and project safety standards.

• Lead incident and near-miss investigations, including root cause analysis and corrective action planning.

• Facilitate safety meetings, orientations, toolbox talks, and ongoing training initiatives for field personnel.

• Coordinate injury reporting and workers' compensation processes, including documentation and follow-up activities.

• Maintain safety records and ensure all required documentation remains current and audit-ready.

• Assist project teams with Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), Activity Hazard Analyses (AHAs), and other risk management documentation.

• Provide first aid and emergency response support when necessary.

• Track and communicate changes in applicable safety regulations and industry best practices.

• Prepare safety reports and project-specific compliance documentation for management and clients.

• Partner with project leadership to foster a culture focused on injury prevention and continuous improvement.

• Perform additional duties as assigned to support successful project execution.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 7 years of construction safety experience or an equivalent combination of field experience and professional certifications.

• At least 5 years of experience supporting commercial building construction projects.

• Current OSHA 500 or OSHA 502 certification (or ability to obtain/update as required).

• Current First Aid, CPR, and AED certifications.

• Demonstrated experience with:

• Fall Protection

• Scaffold Safety

• Excavation and Trenching

• Confined Space Entry

• Crane and Heavy Equipment Operations

• Electrical Safety

• Incident Investigation and Reporting

• Professional certifications such as CSP, CHST, OHST, ASP, or equivalent are highly preferred.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

• Strong understanding of OSHA regulations and construction safety best practices.

• Ability to communicate effectively with craft workers, subcontractors, project management teams, and ownership representatives.

• Strong leadership skills with the ability to influence safe behaviors in the field.

• Bilingual English/Spanish proficiency strongly preferred.

• Excellent organizational, documentation, and time management skills.

• Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, email platforms, PDF software, and digital safety management tools.

• Ability to work independently while managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced construction environment.
