This role is responsible for leading and managing safety programs across multiple rail and transit construction projects, ensuring compliance with federal and state regulations, and fostering a strong safety culture among contractors and project teams. The Rail Project Safety Manager collaborates closely with engineering, operations, and project management teams to identify risks, implement safety protocols, and monitor performance. The position also supports internal safety and training initiatives by developing programs, policies, and procedures that enhance operational safety. This role requires travel to project sites, hands-on leadership in safety inspections and audits, and active engagement in incident management and reporting. Accountabilities:
• Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive safety programs aligned with industry and regulatory standards.
• Conduct site inspections, audits, and risk assessments to identify and mitigate safety hazards.
• Review and enforce contractor and subcontractor safety plans, issuing corrective actions or Stop Work Orders as needed.
• Collaborate with engineering and project teams to integrate safety protocols into project execution.
• Lead incident investigations, document findings, and ensure corrective actions are implemented.
• Deliver safety training and promote awareness across project teams to maintain a proactive safety culture.
• Ensure compliance with OSHA, Amtrak, NJ TRANSIT, CSX, and other relevant safety regulations and certifications.
Requirements:
• Minimum of 20 years of experience in safety management for rail or transit projects.
• Proven track record managing safety compliance for large-scale construction projects across multiple sites.
• Strong knowledge of federal and state safety standards, including OSHA 30-hour Construction Safety & Health.
• Experience with major rail agencies and operating standards (e.g., Amtrak, PANYNJ/PATH, Maryland Transit Administration).
• Ability to develop, review, and enforce safety plans, policies, and reporting mechanisms.
• Certifications such as CSP, CHST, TSSP, or equivalent are preferred.
• Strong leadership, communication, and collaboration skills to work effectively with diverse teams.
• Willingness to travel to project sites and work in a hybrid office/project environment.
