Senior Apple Platform Engineer

Ciklum is looking for a Senior Apple Platform Engineer to join our team full-time in Slovakia.

About the role:

We are seeking an experienced Senior Apple Platform Engineer to build the MVP of a Swift-based connectivity engine that interacts with BLE peripheral devices, exposes a language-agnostic API via gRPC, and enables real-time data streaming and control commands.

In this role, you will design and implement the core connectivity layer across iOS and macOS, responsible for discovering, connecting, and communicating with physical devices. The solution will serve as the foundation for applications running across multiple platforms and environments.

While the primary focus remains on Swift-based Apple platform development, we are also looking for candidates with a broader engineering mindset, including experience or interest in backend systems, networking, and hardware integration.

You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to ensure the platform delivers high performance, stability, and seamless device connectivity.

Responsibilities:

• Apple Platform Connectivity Development (iOS & macOS)

• Design and implement a Swift-based connectivity engine for BLE devices across iOS and macOS

• Develop device discovery, scanning, pairing, and connection management

• Implement communication flows for control commands and device data streams

• Ensure reliable BLE handling, including reconnection strategies

• Real-Time Data & Communication

• Implement real-time data streaming with focus on latency, throughput, and reliability

• Manage data queues, drop policies, and multi-client distribution

• Develop gRPC / Protobuf APIs as a language-agnostic service

• Architecture & Platform Development

• Contribute to a cross-platform connectivity architecture for device interaction

• Ensure scalability and multi-client support

• Design systems evolving into a unified connectivity layer

• Collaborate on backend/service components where relevant

• Integration & Collaboration

• Support integration with external apps, including Unity (C#) clients

• Collaborate with cross-functional teams on connectivity features

• Participate in technical discussions and architecture decisions

• Quality, Diagnostics & Reliability

• Ensure high performance and reliability

• Implement diagnostics using OSLog, MetricKit, XCTest

• Maintain code quality via testing, reviews, and best practices

Requirements:

• Core Technical Skills

• Strong experience with Swift 5.x and development across iOS and/or macOS

• Deep understanding of Apple platform architecture and application lifecycle

• Experience working with Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) using CoreBluetooth

• Strong debugging and problem-solving skills

• Software Engineering & Systems Thinking

• Experience designing scalable and maintainable software architectures

• Experience building systems that integrate with external devices or hardware

• Understanding of concurrency, asynchronous communication, and performance optimization

• Exposure to networking concepts, APIs, or backend systems is a strong plus

• Collaboration & Engineering Practices

• Experience working in cross-functional product teams

• Strong focus on code quality, maintainability, and testing

Desirable:

• Experience with gRPC / Protobuf APIs

• Knowledge of network messaging patterns (IPC, PUB/SUB)

• Experience with real-time data streaming systems

• Experience with ZeroMQ or similar messaging frameworks

• Experience with BLE protocols or hardware-level communication

• Familiarity with C# and Unity integration

• Experience with IoT or device connectivity platforms

• Experience contributing to backend services or distributed systems

The salary starts from 3400 Eur gross. The final salary depends on the previous experience and professional knowledge of the candidate.
