About the Role
Overview
Meadow is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to help build and scale our student financial engagement platform, Meadow Pay. As we continue expanding to universities nationwide, this role will be critical in delivering reliable, scalable product experiences for students and institutional partners.
You will design, build, and operate core systems across our backend and frontend stack, partnering closely with Product, CX, and Integrations to deliver high-quality software. This role requires strong technical judgment, a high bar for quality, and a desire to take ownership of meaningful product areas from concept through production.
What You'll Do
• Lead end-to-end development of product features from design through deployment and ongoing support.
• Architect and build scalable backend services and APIs (TypeScript/Node.js).
• Contribute to frontend development using modern frameworks (React preferred).
• Design systems with reliability, observability, and maintainability in mind.
• Collaborate cross-functionally with Product, Design, CX, and Integrations teams to deliver customer-facing functionality.
• Participate in code reviews and uphold high standards for code quality and system design.
• Improve engineering processes, tooling, and documentation to support scale.
• Help shape technical decisions and engineering culture as we grow.
About You
What You Bring
• 5+ years of professional software development experience in a team environment.
• Ability to manage projects independently and deliver high-quality work on tight timelines.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Experience building and operating production systems at scale.
• Strong backend development experience (TypeScript/Node.js preferred).
• Experience building modern frontend applications (React preferred).
• Experience with relational databases and writing performant SQL queries.
• Familiarity with cloud infrastructure (AWS preferred) and modern deployment practices.
• Strong understanding of monitoring, logging, and observability best practices.

• Experience in fintech, edtech, or other regulated industries.
• Experience working at an early-stage or high-growth startup.
• Familiarity with payment systems or financial infrastructure.
• Experience designing systems that integrate with external partners or APIs.

Compensation and Benefits
This is a full-time position. Meadow wants all employees to be supported in their personal and professional development, so we take a comprehensive approach to compensation and benefits. The initial annual salary for this position is expected to range from $150,000–$190,000. This range represents the low and high end for a position based in New York, NY. Actual compensation will depend on numerous factors such as: experience, knowledge and skills, qualifications, location, and other job-related factors.
