Overall purpose of role
Responsible for planning, distributing, monitoring, and reviewing work activities related to the development of NA design and construction drawings. Supervise a team of draftsmen and ensure high-quality deliverables across multiple projects. Prepare detailed drawings and material take-offs based on basic design drawings or sketches provided by designers and engineers, ensuring accuracy, compliance with project standards, and timely completion of tasks.
Primary responsibilities, authorities & accountabilities
• Act as a checker for design-related deliverables, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and compliance with project standards.
• Develop and maintain 3D models and/or 2D drawing packages according to drafting standards, ensuring clarity and quality of details.
• Conduct periodic model reviews to verify content, completeness, and adherence to design intent; participate in 3D model reviews as required.
• Review designs for general safety, access and egress, materials handling, maintenance, and operability requirements.
• Prepare Material Take-Offs (MTOs) and estimate drawing quantities for deliverables.
• Perform design functions at previous levels as needed.
• Review and update discipline-specific design guidelines and standards.
• Develop and maintain drawing lists for all design deliverables.
• Gather, review, and interpret applicable codes, standards, and vendor requirements; communicate installation requirements to the design team.
• Review and comment on vendor drawings to ensure compliance with project requirements.
• Recommend design improvements and document lessons learned to enhance future projects.
• Analyze design options to optimize cost and project schedules.
• Support project closeout activities, including preparation of as-built documentation.
• Ensure compliance with client specifications, company requirements, HSES policies, and applicable information security procedures.
• Coordinate project activities across multiple office locations to maintain consistency and efficiency.
• Provide technical design inputs and prepare specialized plans and arrangements, including:
• Fire and safety plans, general arrangement drawings, room layouts
• Helideck marking plans
• Hull and cantilever loadout arrangements, vessel docking plans
• Cantilever load testing arrangements, lifeboat launching arrangements
• Anchoring, mooring, and towing arrangements
• Bulkhead and deck classification for fire protection, watertight/weathertight plans
• Support bids and proposals by providing design input and technical expertise.
Attainment
Education: ITI Draftsmanship or Diploma in any Engineering discipline.
Experience: 5–7 years in offshore/onshore projects, oil and gas facilities, or drilling rigs within design and construction environments.
Technical Skills: Proficient in AutoCAD and 3D modeling software such as PDMS, AVEVA, or equivalent. Experienced in naval architecture or marine drafting, including general arrangements, safety plans, and related deliverables.
Communication: Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate across multiple disciplines.
